Photo Diary Study

Interviewer opening script

Thank you so much for volunteering to help us with this study! This project will help us understand how people at MIT find information so that we can improve our services.

I’m [name] and I’ll be conducting the interview, and this is [name] who will be taking notes. Feel free to be candid in your comments… your honest opinions can only help us improve our systems and services. We may pause every so often for the person who is taking notes to catch up.

We’ll begin with a few basic questions about you and then spend most of the asking you to tell the story of your week and the various information seeking tasks you did.

We’ve allowed an hour and a half for the interview, but if we’re done sooner, that’s OK, too.

Here is the consent form. The form says that we may use your photos and/or comments from you in publications and presentations, but without your name included. Since we’re interviewing a small sample of people, it’s possible someone may recognize you. So by signing the form you’re agreeing that it’s OK with you. If you’d like to read over it again right now, feel free. Otherwise I’ll just need your signature. Do you have any questions?
