Minutes - 14 April 2004

Present: Hennig (chair), Duke, Edelman, Quirion, Skuce (minutes)

1. Usability testing of our new home page design

WAG refined the list of usability test questions drafted by Nicole and Stephen. The test will be conducted offline, with large-format prints of the home page. Christine provided the group with ingenious representations of the new page that will allow us to present testers with the contents of pull-down menus. 10 individuals (undergrad and graduate students) will be tested, and fast: we need results in time for our April 28 meeting.

2. Publicizing the new home page

Our goal is to prepare a smooth transition for both Libraries staff and our public. Among other things on WAG's radar:

  • Having a "check it out" link to the new design from our current home page for some period before cutting over.
  • An article in the IS newsletter.
  • A feature on the MIT home page.
  • A brown bag for staff. The new design provides varied opportunities for featuring services and initiatives, and strong potential as a publicity tool. We will encourage staff to consider ways we can maximize the site's usefulness and impact.

Next meeting:

Wednesday, April 28, 2-3:30, Nicole's Office
