Redesign: Timeline and Strategy
We reviewed
a timeline
that Nicole prepared for the home page redesign project and the rationale
for redesigning the home page. We reviewed an inventory of items that
will and will not be included on the new home page and the best arrangement
for these links. Nicole edited our wire
frame to include these links.
Skuce
and Hennig will go to Steering Committee on March 18th to present
a wire frame of the new design and solicit feedback in the early stages
of the design process. We decided to add links for graduate students,
faculty, and undergraduates under research help on the Ask Us! page.
The link for faculty will still remain on the home page, but starting
points for other items should already be covered in the "How
Do I..." category. The Graduate Student page will be moved into
the FAQ section of the current web site for now.
2. Importing
BELL titles into Vera
We
received positive responses from subject selector and library staff
after asking them about adding BELL titles to Vera. We plan to go
forward with the import toward the end of February. We also discussed
other ways to present the BELL information, looking at Columbia University's
use of LC class numbers to assign subjects to Columbia's e-journals.
3. Updates
- Links
to the metadata unit were moved under Collection Services on the
list of MIT Libraries page and a link to the metadata unit was added
to every page of the metadata reference guide, as well as the list
of MIT libraries page.
- Carl and Nicole
are still working on installing Moveable Type, a free
content management system for blogs, on a library server. We will
then
test the possibility of managing the News Briefs section of our
site
with this system.
-
Nicole is still working on the new subject page templates.
