1.
Archives usability test
Lois
and Nora joined WAG to evaluate results of the Researcher tests. Two
more Researcher tests had been conducted since our last meeting, bringing
the total to five. Raw numbers: 3 testers successfully answered 9
of 10 questions; 2 testers successfully answered 8 of 10 questions.
We agreed on several specific changes to be made to the Archives web
site, which Christine recorded. She will combine those with the decisions
reached during our review of the Records Management tests, post all
the recommendations on the WAG web site, and forward them to Lois
for implementation.
2.
SFX FullText Finder
Joan joined us in our review of version 2 of the FullText Finder.
Some of the changes we hoped would be in the new release are not operational,
so we discussed whether it's ready to go public, and if not, when
it might be. If we can at least describe the bugs and limitations,
should we make it live?
Some
key points: No in-depth staff training has taken place. There are
still problems -- not even consistent ones -- with initial articles.
Titles with thresholds (but only titles with thresholds) require entry
of a date along with the title: this is a problem that would be difficult
to explain to users succinctly.
Bottom
line: The problems and limitations in the FullText Finder are such
that it's not ready for unveiling to the public. Since improvements
are slated to it for 4th quarter this year, we recommend waiting.
We'll continue to discuss this at a future meeting.
