Archives usability tests
Lois
was able to get Bosworth's gift certificates for $5 each to use
as rewards for the testers. Nora will distribute names of volunteers
to the observers in the next few days. Stephen will send updated
copies of the test to all of us. Nicole will collect the results.
Observers
should email results to Nicole after each test. We'll meet to discuss
results on May 21.

E-reserves and SFX
Christine
brought to us the idea of using the SFX Citation Linker (with visible
URLs turned on) as a tool for users to generate URLs to use on
Stellar or other course pages created by faculty. Those URLS would
link to an SFX menu for a particular article.
This will work if SFX links to the article level. We agreed that
this is a good idea and we'll include this in our next discussion
of the SFX Citation Linker (FullText Finder).
Also
discussed: how to promote our pages that tell people how to link
to articles in databases? Darcy will contact our faculty user group
about linking from the new faculty FAQ to the pages
about
linking:
Linking to
Articles Online: Information for MIT Faculty. We also have
information about how to link to specific records in Barton, but
we will wait until the no-frames version is ready before making
a page to promote that (since the syntax will change).

Other items
The
new "Hot Topics" page is almost ready. We will announce
it when it goes live. It includes links to the new
"Metadata Reference Guide," Carol's "Letter
from the Faculty Committee on the Library System (FCLS)," "Journals
Purchasing Environment Poses New Problems," a "Planning
for the Future" section including
the HASS committee
report, and more.
Web
changes as a result of the usability tests will happen soon. Nicole
will work on mockups of possible Vera changes to discuss at a future
meeting.
We're still waiting to hear back from
CMG about another volunteer to work with us on a new template for
Subject Guides.
