Minutes - 19 February 2003

Present: Hennig, Edelman (minutes), Duke, Quirion, Cohn, Durisin

1. Usability Test: Results and Brown Bag Lunch

We postponed discussion of the usability test results, since not everyone has conducted the extra tests yet.

Nicole will book a room for the Brown Bag lunch discussion of the usability test, and we will plan that discussion at our next meeting.

2. Database Discovery Tool

Nicole attended a PSMG meeting and distributed the report on the database discovery tool comparison that was completed last August. She also mentioned corroborating evidence from our usability tests that a database discovery tool would be helpful to patrons. PSMG expressed positive feedback.

In May, an updated proposal will be submitted, requesting that the adoption of a database discovery tool be designated a systems priority.

We will see whether we can make any small changes to Vera, in order to make it more user-friendly, but will hold off on big changes until we know more about the database discovery tool.

3. Changes to the Web Site

We will talk about our long range plan for the web site at a future meeting.

We proposed a new page, called "Issues and Initiatives," for linking to new pages about scholarly publishing, metadata, and space planning. Darcy will begin a draft and we'll discuss it at a future meeting.

4. SFX: Full Text Finder

We discussed how to change the page, where we should link it from, and how to publicize it. Nicole will create a draft. We considered linking to it from:

  • Vera
  • Finding Articles
  • BELL
  • Search Our Collections
  • Help Yourself
  • Barton? (ask Barton group)

Next meeting:

Wednesday, March 5, 2-3:30; 10-500 (Barker Conference Room)
