Present:
Hennig (chair), Duke, Edelman, Quirion, Skuce (minutes)
Guests: Peter Cohn, Patty Durisin
1. FAQ: The group reviewed and tweaked the SFX FAQ document
drafted by Darcy and Patty. Darcy will make agreed-upon changes, and
prepare it for mounting on the web.
2.
SFX Training: Darcy and Christine have prepared a checklist for
use in training Libraries staff in SFX. WAG members, with Peter and
Patty, will train staff in their units; Darcy will train staff in
Dewey. Peter will likely lead the first training at Rotch in late
January; the target date for all other training is late February.
As training progresses, we will inform one another of questions and
problems. Nicole and Darcy will make a page for staff on macfadden
with info such as: what sources are turned on in the live database,
what's in progress, and so on. This training area will also include
an "SFX known bugs/problems" list.
3.
SFX to-do list: There's been strong progress on several fronts.
Some highlights:
- Nicole
distributed the latest screen shots of the SFX menus, which are
much improved, reflecting earlier suggestions.
- The
group reviewed Nicole's MIT SFX button designs (based on the group's
choice of what the button should say) and chose the "bold"
version. Also, we will always try to include a text link when the
vendor allows it.
- Other
linking services: We hope SFX will effectively replace vendor-supplied
linking services. Of those currently offering such services, Jen
will investigate ISI and Darcy will look into CSA and Silver Platter,
to confirm whether we can indeed turn them off in the SFX environment.
- Christine
developed a new Document Services entry page for users coming to
Doc Services via SFX; Nicole will link it after incorporating minor
changes suggested by the group.
4.
Next steps: Those present will work through various assignments
generated in this meeting. Nicole will re-compile the to-do list and
redistribute it to WAG + Peter and Patty, Marilyn, Joan and Jennifer.
At a meeting in early February, we will polish off final details,
and if everything seems ready, we'll make the recommendation to Marilyn
to ask Ellen to contact vendors about making SFX live.
