1. SFX discussion
(with guests:
Patty Durisin, Peter Cohn)
We brought everyone
up to date on where we are with SFX. Our task is to work on the user
interface of the menu and the SFX buttons/links. Another possibility
to consider is the idea of making the "full text finder"
(Open URL Generator) available to the public. Handouts were distributed
that included the logons for the SFX test accounts in source databases
and screen shots of how the button and menus appear at some other
institutions using SFX. We discussed what the possibilities are and
what ideas the Enav committee came up with already.
We also updated
the group on results we saw from our recent usability test for the
question that used SFX.
Tasks
for next week:
- Each person
should try logging on to the test accounts of the databases and
see how the button or link is displayed. Make list of ideas for
improving it.
- Each person
should look at how the menu appears for different kinds of citations
from each database. Make list of ideas for improving it. Bring these
ideas to next meeting.
The next meeting
will be entirely devoted to SFX.
2. Usability
test results
(with guests:
Pam Nicholas, Kate McNeill-Harman)
Using the list
of detailed problems identified, we brainstormed possible solutions
for each one. We had time to do less than half of the list, so this
process will be continued at the January 2 meeting.
Detailed results
will be communicated to the rest of our staff (via appropriate groups
and committees and perhaps a brownbag lunch) after we finish discussing
ideas for possible solutions at the next few meetings.
Next meetings
Wednesday, December 18, 2-3:30; Barker conference room (SFX discussion
- whole meeting)
Thursday, January 2, 2003, 1:30-3; Barker conference room (usabiliy
results)
