Minutes - 2 October 2002

Present: Hennig, Edelman (minutes), Duke, Quirion, Skuce

1. Minutes

The minutes of the Webgroup will be rotated alphabetically. Each recorder will either post the minutes on the web or send them to Darcy to post. The url of the draft minutes will be sent to WAG, and once it has been approved by the group, it will be linked to from the minutes page and sent to All-Lib.

2. Usability test questions

The members of the group presented the test questions that they had created, and discussed changes. Each member will update his or her questions as needed and send the revised versions to Nicole, who will compile drafts of two tests. Each member of the group will test the tests and bring feedback to the next meeting.

3. Usability test logistics

Nicole presented the following list of ideas:

  • The test will focus on student use (graduate and undergraduate) of the Libraries' web site, with a target of 20-30 testers.
  • The purpose of the test is to observe how patrons use the Libraries' web site while doing research.
  • We will need 10 observers.
  • We will offer a $15 gift certificate to Amazon.com or the MIT Coop to testers.
  • With the testers' permission, we will audiotape their test.
  • At the end of each test we will have a general survey question: What improvements to our site would help you the most?
  • There will be introductory questions at the beginning of each test.

Darcy will make sign-up sheets to post at circulation desks in order to recruit testers.

We will recruit volunteers in October and do the tests in November.

We will hold a meeting for the observers in October.

Next meeting:

Wednesday, October 16, 2-3:30; 10-500 (Barker Conference Room)
