1. Research
help page - new mockups
Nicole
met with Jennifer Edeleman of the Reference Committee to work on new
mockups of the Research Help page. The webgroup looked at the work
in progress. The mockups will be taken back to Reference Committee
for further discussion.
2. Creating a technology timeline
The
group received a suggestion to create a technology timeline of the
Libraries similar to that of the CalTech library: Innovation
Chronology. Stephen will meet with Ruth Seidman to discuss possible
timeline content.
3. DSpace page template
Nicole
met with Margret Branschofsky to create mockups of sample designs
for the DSpace information site (the pages about DSpace, not the application
interface). The webgroup looked at the possible designs. These will
be brought back to the DSpace team for selecting one of the design/color
schemes. The process will continue with rewriting the DSpace informational
web site and putting it into a design that matches the rest of our
web site, with the goal of making it live by September.
4. RBR and Hayden Circulation web pages
By this
fall, we need to make sure our web site reflects the merging of the
Reserve Book Room with Hayden Circulation and that all information
on relevant pages is up to date. We should also have photographs made
of the new service desk for the web site. Stephen will contact the
appropriate staff to work on these updates.
5. GIS site usability testing
Sarah
Williams met with the group to finalize plans for usability testing
of the GIS web site. The
observers will meet at Rotch on August 12th 4-5pm to go over the questions
and format and get their assigned volunteers. Each observer will have
approximately three weeks to meet with their volunteers, and the group
will debrief with the results at the September 4th WAG meeting.
6. Usability Testing of the Big Picture
Sometime
this fall we plan to design a usability test for looking at the big
picture of how our users find information for their research. This
test would combine testing aspects of Barton, Vera, SFX, Ask Us Live,
and various web tutorials (especially the new Finding Articles Tutorial
that's under development). We hope to get a better picture of how
all these tools work together to bring people to the information they
need and how we can improve the whole integrated picture.
7. Committee membership
With
all the upcoming work on usability testing, DSpace, and SFX/Metalib
that may be going on this fall, the group would like to re-expand
its membership back to a larger size. Nicole will draft a recommendation
for membership representation based on our discussions.
Next meeting:
Wednesday, July 31, 2-3:30; 10-500 (Nicole's office) [Note: this meeting
was cancelled.]
