1. SFX menu
Nicole
has been working on the layout for an SFX menu to be used in our databases.
The group provded some feedback on wording and content; Nicole will
mock-up another version and bring it back to the group.
2. Review of a divisional library homepage
Stephen
led the group in a heuristic review of the Humanities homepage (as
a representative of all divisional libraries homepages) http://libraries.mit.edu/humanities
using Jakob Nielsen's guidelines in his "Homepage Usability"
book. Stephen will write up the results and present them to the group
next time.
3. Reviewing other ARL libraries web sites
A few
library web sites had been suggested to the group as examples of sites
that had interesting or novel approaches to presenting their resources
and services. Each member of the group will look at these suggested
sites and pick a few other ARL libraries' sites and come back to the
next meeting and present any interesting findings.
4. Planning usability tests for web site
The
group began planning for some usability testing of the MIT Libraries
web site, hopefully in the beginning of April. At the next meeting
we will make concrete decisions on what exactly we will be testing
and who we will be testing with. Since we are contemplating some larger
changes to the site, we hope to get some input from the reference
visioning group on how we might structure the presentation of our
services.
Next meeting:
Wednesday,
March 20, 2-3:30pm; 10-500 (Nicole's office)
