Minutes - 16 January 2002

Present: Duke (minutes), Hennig, Skuce

1. Plan brownbag lunch for update on public web

We set an agenda for the brownbag lunch on January 28th in 14E-304. For the first half of the session WAG members will discuss the feedback we've received so far and some of our plans for the future. We will then open up the floor for questions, suggestions and discussion of ideas.

2. Future of subject pages

Judging by our usability testing and anecdotal feedback, it seems that many of our patrons find our subject pages very useful, but had not found them before on their own nor would have thought to look for them on the Libraries web site. Considering the amount of time many subject specialists put into creating these pages, it was suggested that various interested groups (WAG and web contacts, among others) should review the future of subject pages - whether we should continue them at all, or if we do, how we could publicize and promote them better. WAG will discuss this issue at a future meeting.

3. GIS web site

Nicole and Sarah Williams continue to work on new templates for the new GIS web site. The site will probably go live before the end of January.

4. Homepage evaluation using Nielsen's criteria

The group finished reviewing the Libraries' homepage using the criteria set by Jakob Nielsen's "Homepage Usability" book. In future meetings we will rate individual library homepages.

Next meetings:

Wednesday, February 6, 2-3:30PM; 10-500 (Nicole's office)
Monday, February 25 (note different day), 2-3:30pm; 10-500 (Nicole's office)
