1. Usability testing conference
Nicole
discussed further the User Interface 6 East Conference she recently
attended and the group debated ways we could potentially implement
some of the methods suggested there. We felt many of these models
could be useful for testing all types of services, so we decided to
share these ideas with other library staff by sponsoring a brown bag
discussion sometime during IAP.
2. Archives web site
The
group reviewed mock-ups of several Archives pages and discussed further
changes.
3. New sections of the website: DSpace, GIS, etc.
New
public web pages are being developed for DSpace and GIS. These pages
will be their own independent mini-sites (like the Institute Archives),
but it would be nice for them to have some visual relationship to
the larger MIT Libraries web site. Sarah Williams and Jonah Jenkins
have been working on a wire frame (text-only draft) of the GIS site.
Nicole & Darcy are working with Sarah to develop templates for
the "look and feel" of these new GIS pages.
4. Staff vs. public web
The
Metadata Committee has a need for both public and private web spaces.
Their minutes and regular committee work should go on the staff pages
on macfadden, but much of their work and findings may be of interest
to the public. We suggested using the Subject Guide template and putting
it on our public web site, for those pages they would like to write
for an audience outside of the libraries' staff. This could be a Subject
Guide about the topic of Metadata.
