Web Advisory Group
Minutes 8/1/2001
Present: Duke (minutes), Hartman, Hennig, Jones, Manoff
1. Let them eat cake
A short celebration was conducted in honor of the successful launch of the new MIT Libraries web site.
2. Membership rotation
A fond farewell was said to Wayne, Marlene, and Stephanie as they will be rotating off WAG. Stephen Skuce will be joining as a representative from Collection Services; two new members from Public Services will be announced soon.
3. Publicity for new web site
Nicole met with Ruth regarding publicity for the new site. A postcard-type flyer will be made with the top level page on one side and a bulleted list of significant features/links on the other.4. Scope of the public web site
There are a few pages/sites hosted by the MIT Libraries that do not fit within the scope of the "public" web site. The staff web is one example, but there are also a number of other non- or quasi-public web pages. These include:
- host sites for other organizations
- orphans: "dead" pages/sites which have interest to the MIT community, but have no other place to exist
- conferences we host
- professional papers and presentations written by staff members
While the last two categories have mostly been addressed already, it was decided a policy should be established for the others as to when these should be allowed and how they should be implemented. Nicole will write up a document outlining our decisions.
4. Request for links/subject page for Comparative Media Studies
A request was made from CMS to provide links and/or a subject page for CMS. Marlene will speak with one of her contacts in the department to discuss what can be done.
Next meeting:
Wednesday, August 29, 1:30 - 3 PM; Library Training Room (14-0645)
