Video Tutorials: Guidelines & Help

Online video tutorials are a new technology that the MIT Libraries are supporting to:

  • improve outreach and instruction to our user community
  • create tools for staff training

Want to create a video tutorial?

  1. If you haven't already worked with us, let us know: tutorials-lib@mit.edu. We want to make sure staff making video tutorials have the proper training and support and that your creations will play nicely with the other tutorials.
  2. Coordinate your efforts within your department and/or committees to assure that we are not duplicating efforts and are making the most of our limited staff time. This coordination will also help ensure that the presentation of videos is consistent, so that our users and staff find them easy to understand and use. See the public tutorials that have already been created. Reuse, don't recreate!
  3. Be sure to follow the guidelines and policies that are outlined in this site:

General Guidelines, Policies and Help: Where to upload the files, what resolution and size they should be, what standard content should be included in all tutorials, etc.
  4. Consult these pages for more help:

Camtasia Tips: Camtasia is the video capture software that is being provided to selected staff. Don't struggle with figuring out Camtasia - get quick help here
Recording PowerPoint Presentations: Quickly convert your existing PowerPoint presentation to a video tutorial.
Tutorial Samples: See examples of video tutorials from the MIT Libraries and beyond.
