Web Site Statistics

(pages served by "libraries.mit.edu")

To see our monthly statistics, look in this directory:
http://libraries.mit.edu/usage/

A report is auto-generated on the first of each month and appears in that directory by date.

We use an open source program, called Analog, to process our log files. Click on the month you would like to see, such as:
http://libraries.mit.edu/usage/0407.html

A good number to use when comparing visits to our site over time is this one: "Successful requests for pages," found near the top of the report. (Make sure to choose requests for pages, not just requests, because that would include every graphic that is downloaded when a page is viewed).

Our busiest month is usually April. So for example, you can look at the overall growth by comparing that number for April over time:

April 2000: 298,887
April 2001: 385,458
April 2002: 481,348
April 2003: 684,800
April 2004: 1,086,512

To see the hits for a particular page, click on "request report" near the top of any monthly report. This links down to the portion of the page that lists hits on individual pages:
http://libraries.mit.edu/usage/0407.html#req

From that you can see that our job listings page was one of the most frequently requested pages that month, with 15,772 requests:

Vera Statistics

We use a free web reporting service to track hits on Vera's home page. To see it, go to Vera:

... and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

You will see a small "planet" icon. Click on it to view the statistics.
