Web Guidelines: MIT Libraries

Subject Selectors:

Keeping links to selectors up-to-date

The individual names of subject selectors appear in a number of places on our web site. These pages need to be updated whenever personnel change.

Here's a list of where they appear, and how to make appropriate changes:

Research Guides: May be edited by the selector or web contacts for the appropriate library, or by the creator of a LibGuide.

Subject Experts Page (MIT Only): Send request for change to Marion.

Suggested Purchase Form (MIT Only): These requests are emailed to a subject-specific list which includes the appropriate subject selector and collection manager, both of whom can make changes to the list. Every subject has its own list. Nicole and Erja Kajosalo can also make changes to all these lists.

To make needed changes:

  1. Find the name of the email list that needs to be changed by viewing the HTML source of the Suggested Purchase Form (MIT Only).

Find the section that looks like this - the list name will be the part in quotes:

    <OPTION VALUE="sp-art@mit.edu">Art</OPTION>
    <OPTION VALUE="sp-education@mit.edu">Education </OPTION>
    <OPTION VALUE="sp-filmstudies@mit.edu">Film Studies </OPTION>
    <OPTION VALUE="sp-history@mit.edu">History</OPTION>

  2. Use Athena List Management or "listmaint" to add or remove someone from a list. For more help, see Email Lists at MIT: Athena/Moira

Research Consultation Form: A user may choose to meet with a specific subject selector on this page; in this case the request is emailed directly to that person. Send requests for changes to Marion.

Staff Directory: Send requests for changes to the staff directory to Marion.

DO A FINAL CHECK:

Some selectors may be responsible for general publications such as LibGuides or tutorials, and their names will appear on these pages. To look for any remaining instances of the selector's name, search the MIT Libraries web site for the name. If pages besides those mentioned above are found, contact Marion to have a change made.
