Trouble with main "E-journal" search or A-Z browse

  • If trouble with holdings (or lack thereof), email sfxprob@mit.edu (Ask Us! staff: don't email, just move to SFX queue).
  • If trouble with search or display or you aren't sure what the problem is, email metalib-support@mit.edu (Ask Us! staff: don't email, just move to Metalib queue).

Trouble with main "Database" search or A-Z browse

Report as you would any other problem with current Vera.

Trouble with main "Search”

- If a database says "error, connection failure" on the waiting screen, the possible reasons for failure include:

  • Database has simultaneous user limits that are being hit.
  • Database may not accept special characters or unusual syntax (modify your search or report bugs).
  • Database is taking too long to respond (see FAQ #5).

To test :

  1. Test the native interface.  If you cannot get in at all, email dig-prob@mit.edu (Ask Us! staff: don't email, just move to dig-prob queue).
  2. Otherwise, email metalib-support@mit.edu (Ask Us staff: don't email, just move to Metalib queue). "Expert" Ask Us! staff only: test in native OOB (out-of-box) Metalib - see detailed instructions.  Regardless of result, report results of your test (this will help Metalib folks know who should take the question – if it works in OOB it’s probably a Sands question, if it didn’t it’s a Selina question).

- If problem with results or content of individual citations:
Compare to results in native interface - email metalib-support@mit.edu (Ask Us staff: don't email, just move to Metalib queue and include this information.

- If title link does not go to full text of article:
All linked titles of articles should go directly to full text articles (or close) or to the SFX menu if there are multiple sources. If link doesn't work but you can get to the article through regular channels, move to SFX queue. If you can't get to the article through the regular channels, move to dig-prob queue. Barton citations should go to full Barton records and Worldcat citations should go to Worldcat.org records – if they do not, email metalib-support@mit.edu (Ask Us staff: don't email, just move to Metalib queue).
