MIT Libraries Undergraduate User Group

Undergraduate User Group minutes: 8/07/01

Present: de Popolo, Gaybridge, Wenzel

Scheduling meetings Fall 2001: We propose the second and fourth Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. This works for the three people present. Others please confirm (or deny?)

Membership of UUG: Excellent news: Pat Flanagan will join us in the Undergraduate Group this year. Some shifting of memberships in the user groups is going on; many people are staying with their present assignments, some are switching off to take other assignments. Nina is going off our group, for obvious reasons. Sarah and Tracy are staying on UUG. Others not at the meeting should let Margaret know their status. The group brainstormed other people who would make excellent members.

Academic Expo: The rest of the meeting was given over to plans for the Academic Expo event which UUG is managing this year. The date is Friday, August 24th. Officially the event runs from 2:15 to 4:00, in the Johnson Gym, first floor. Tracy reported on the good time that participants had had last year, greeting the incoming freshmen. The Libraries' banner has been reserved. A call for volunteers to set up, take away, and serve on the table will go out soon. Three people on the table each hour worked well last year. Handouts will be the Libraries' map, pens, student jobs description, hours cards, and a few Quick Guides to Barton. Sarah suggested bringing a few interesting/fun books from Music Library and Humanities; Rotch will bring bookcovers. Sarah will put together a script for Power Point to highlight library services. Time is short to do this; Margaret will check for a volunter Power Pointer in Rotch.
