Faculty User Group

Mission & Goals (Developed 12/15/99; revised 11/1/00)

Mission: The MIT Libraries Faculty Users Group advocates and promotes exemplary services for the MIT Faculty.

  • We gather, analyze and disseminate information about faculty needs for library services.
  • We develop and recommend new or improved services.
  • We facilitate communication between the faculty and the Libraries.
  • We work with library staff to implement recommendations.

Goals: Fiscal Years 2000/2001

  • Conduct faculty survey
    • create survey database to tabulate results
    • share raw data with staff
    • summarize and share survey results
    • respond to specific faculty questions
    • based on survey results, develop new/improved services and recommend changes in existing services
  • Faculty outreach
    • host faculty focus group
    • create an ongoing vehicle for faculty feedback
    • create a plan to incorporate faculty in our meetings
    • outreach to new faculty
  • Create a web page
  • Learn more about faculty
  • Learn more about faculty information-seeking behavior
Success Criteria:
  • Faculty respond to survey
  • Written report from the faculty survey
  • Written report incorporates survey database
  • Some recommendations are accepted for implementation
  • Responded to specific faculty questions
  • Database made available to staff
  • Create and maintain Faculty Users Group web page

  • Host focus group in Spring 2000
