Groundrules (Developed 12/15/99; revised 11/1/00)

  • Active participation by all
  • Listen actively
  • Speak in turn
  • Meetings start on time and end 10 mins. early to review action items and next meeting's agenda
  • Respect one another's opinions
  • Honesty is encouraged
  • Create an environment where ideas are freely expressed
  • Hold meetings only when necessary
  • If unable to attend a meeting, members will inform the group via e-mail to facultyusers@mit.edu, and a reply on the electronic calendar
  • Decision-making will be by consensus; if consensus is not reached, decide whether the chair will make the decision or if the group will vote

Roles & Responsibilities

 
  • Chair:
    • builds agenda
    • keeps discussion on track and on time
    • obtains location for meetings
    • announces any changes in meeting time and/or location
  • Member:
    • participates fully
    • listens to others
    • keeps discussion on track
    • takes responsibility for action items and decisions
    • communicates as needed
    • comes prepared for meeting
    • informs group if unable to attend meeting
    • respects confidentiality
  • Agenda Setting:
    • list next week's agenda items at the end of each meeting & include in minutes
    • review action items and responsibilities
    • decisions about additional items added to agenda will be made by Chair
    • desired outcomes included in each agenda item
    • times for each item included on agenda
  • Minutes:
    • will list action items and decisions
    • minutes taker rotates alphabetically by last name
    • draft posted to group for comments by end of day Monday
    • Minutes-taker will post minutes to all-lib and to the committee's web page
