Criteria for requesting a Mac

Criteria | Policy

The following will be considered valid justifications for requesting a Mac rather than a PC:

  • required for work collaboration with other work groups on campus (ability to use Mac-only applications already adopted by other Institute DLCs)
  • staff member’s duties include programming, desktop publishing, or graphic-intensive work (including intensive use of Adobe products)
  • staff member has role in supporting specialized applications which require Macs
  • experimentation with new, unique knowledge management tools. Intended use must be clearly described, and must be directly related to the individual’s job responsibilities.

Each staff person will be assigned one primary computer, either a Mac or a PC (not both.)

These criteria will be applied to both new requests for Macs and requests to upgrade Macs currently deployed.
