SFX Staff Guide
FullText Finder

The FullText Finder searches titles in the SFX KnowledgeBase.
<http://libraries.mit.edu/fulltext>

This is nearly equivalent to a search for e-journals in Vera and BELL combined. (See below for details).

We are waiting for the next version of SFX (due later in 2004) which will have some changes to the title search interface, before we roll this out to our users.

See Web Advisory Group minutes, Jan. 7, 2004, for more on this issues. (scroll down to #3, SFX topics)

Differences between FullText Finder , Vera & Barton

Inputting titles
You must type the full exact title (minus initial articles) in the FullText Finder. In Vera and Barton, you can enter partial titles and partial words (allowing for abbreviations to work).

License information
Licensing information and disclaimers are available only via Vera.

Off-campus access
Links in the SFX menu will work from off-campus (with certificates) unless the particular title does allow off-campus access. Only Vera contains "Go" buttons, which indicate which titles work from off-campus.

E-journal links in Barton do not work from off-campus.

Linking to article level
If you know the volume, issue, and starting page of an article you want, the FullText Finder will bring you directly to the article. (except for products where this is not possible via SFX, see SFX's Target page for a list)

Content
Eventually we hope the SFX KnowledgeBase will contain all e-journals listed in Vera, but currently there are some gaps. There are a small number of our titles that are missing from SFX.
