SFX-Verde Meeting - March 6, 2006
Present: Duranceau, Edwards, Gaskell (minutes), Gabridge, Hennig, Lubas, Maxwell, Siers, Wenger
1. Timeline The group made some adjustments to the timeline based on changes in the user needs assessment plan.
2. Separating Verde backend decision from front end decision The group discussed the affect of implementing Verde before having a replacement for the front-end of Vera. We need to identify what fields need to be maintained/updated in Public Vera. And to investigate our ability to write scripts for auto updates from Verde to Vera. There was a general concern about the ALS having enough resources to do double maintenance. Another question raised was if we still need a Barton coverage export and serials solutions or could we get any of this information from SFX. The group also wondered if implementing MarkIt sooner would be advantageous. Jennifer will join Verde migration subgroup which will discuss these issues. Nicole will attend Verde subgroup meetings as needed.
3. Subgroup Updates. The User Needs Subgroup interviewed 16 graduate students in February. They reviewed all the interview notes and came up with lists of goals, tasks, methods, patterns and issues for the graduate students. The subgroup met to discuss these finding and what they mean for the next round of interviews and for this project. Recruiting of undergraduate students has begun for the next round of interviews.
The Verde Migration Subgroup met with Ted Koppel from ExLibris to discuss the migration process. The group is working to determine what fields would need to be migrated. ExLibris will provide a list of databases that will be ultimately be added to the Verde Knowledgebase, a list which we can use now to input metalib IDs into Vera records for databases to act as the matching point for a migration of database records. The group will meet with Ted again at end of March to get into specifics of migration. There was some concern from the group about the invisibility of the project to many of the affected staff. Ellen will discuss this issue with Carol and Marilyn.
The SFX Subgroup continues to work on Barton as an SFX source. The procedures for loading SFX urls into Barton are complete and are being tested on walter. |
