RVC digital images project update 12/12/05
10,763 digital images: 5776 commercial, 4847 scanned by BPI, 140 scanned in-house
Complete and approved metadata records for above: 870 as of today
Our last batch to BPI until February went out 12/9/05. We will concentrate on cataloging until end of January with ideal goal of adding 3000-3500 records
Carl and Sheryl met with the AMPS team on 11/21 to discuss metadata. Nearly all RVC requirements are met (keyword, Creator, Title, Description (view), Period, Site are searchable). Maintaining relationships of compound objects will not be supported initially due to level of complexity
Carl and Melanie have been testing import of images and metadata to DSpace test server, currently ~650 items
User authentication in test DSpace is not working properly, nor is auto-generation of thumbnails; Carl will explore with programmers
Carl and Melanie continue to debug; some work on this with AMPS team also
Carl is working with AMPS to refine data requirements for DSpace/Stellar interoperability
Carl and Sheryl will work further at VRA/DC crosswalk now that VRA Core 4 beta version has been forwarded to Carl by VRA Data Standards Chair
AMPS team has asked to observe HTC art/architecture classes in Spring ’06 for better understanding of how images are used in the classroom; Sheryl relayed request to HTC faculty and asked for volunteers to test the search/retrieval function of AMPS tool during Spring and provide feedback
AMPS has agreed to deliverables which will provide basic functionality for pilot courses in Fall ’06 (gather images, organize images into lecture format including loading of personal images, present in class side-by-side with basic pan and zoom)
RVC/Libraries will deliver images and metadata to DSpace image repository to support 2-3 HTC courses for Fall ’06 pilot in conjunction with AMPS (4.601, 4.605, possibly 4.651 or 4.602 depending on class schedule)
