Public Services Redefinition
Building 14 Issues

10/28/98

Hi all,

As you know from the OITF report and the recent email announcement that we're moving ahead to adopt Modified Model One, the questions of how to assign responsibility for Building 14 public space and whether or not to hire an access services librarian have been raised. With the recent departure of Anne Tanguay, the desire to answer these questions quickly has increased; we want to move ahead with plans for the Science and Humanities libraries as speedily as possible.

Last week I met with Margaret de Popolo, Keith Glavash, Ruth Seidman, and Theresa Tobin to design a process that would resolve these issues and allow opportunity for input from all affected staff. This is what we agreed on:

1. The five of us (Margaret, Keith, Ruth, Theresa, and I) will brainstorm a list of things that are not working well, and we will develop a proposed vision and plan to address this list and to answer the two questions above. This information will be sent out by Friday, November 6.

2. During the week of November 9, staff members are encouraged to discuss the proposal in staff meetings and other groups and to send feedback to Margaret, Keith, Ruth, Theresa, or me by Friday, November 13. We will also see if the PC-team might help us put the proposal and a feedback form on the Redefinition website.

3. Using the feedback we receive, during the week of November 16 we will make any necessary changes to the proposal and hope to have it finalized by Friday, November 20. Once this happens, we will send out an email announcement.

So, watch your email for the proposal on Building 14--it will be coming soon! And please let us know your reactions, questions, and concerns about it once you have a chance to read and think about it!
