Government Documents

  • As a member of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), the MIT Libraries receive selected U.S. government publications. Every unit within the Libraries receives publications from the FDLP. Most of the material received from the FDLP is now available electronically on the websites of government agencies. Many government publications, which by law are not copyrighted, are also included in full text in other databases, such as LexisNexis Academic and LexisNexis Congressional.

    Resources:

    • To see if the Libraries have a certain publication, check Barton. Material received on deposit, in print or electronic format, is in Barton. The Barton record for an electronic-format title has a link to the website.

    • For information on collection scope and relevant databases, see the Government Information – U.S. Government subject guide:

    • Also see the Government Information section of the Virtual Reference Collection:

      http://libraries.mit.edu/help/virtualref.html

    • Older (pre-1964) government publications not in Barton may be listed in the Dewey Decimal Collection microfiche catalog.
