PSMG
Mission Statement (adopted October 25, 2001)
Our mission is to...
- Provide leadership in enacting a user-centered vision for public service.
- Foster a customer-service philosophy throughout public service units.
- Set public service policies and ensure that policies and practices
are congruent.
- Set annual service priorities in accordance with the Libraries' strategic
priorities and ensure their timely implementation.
- Provide direction to other public service committees.
- Monitor the impacts on public service functions resulting from the
work of groups not represented on PSMG.
- Continuously seek to improve public services by gathering information
from the MIT community, both through the user groups and independently.
- Identify unique and innovative ways to enhance public services
by taking advantage of opportunities at MIT and elsewhere.

PSMG Ground Rules (adopted October 25, 2001)
- Confidentiality when requested.
- Agenda sent out 24 hours before the meeting.
- Meetings begin and end on time.
- Record of meetings kept; draft minutes sent out within four working
days following a meeting, final minutes within seven days.
- Create an atmosphere where people feel open to contribute views and
opinions and have others listen thoughtfully.
- Decision-making by consensus.
- Members should keep informed about all areas of the Libraries, especially
those represented on PSMG.
- Members should report back to keep their constituencies informed.
- Members who cannot attend a meeting should notify the chair.
- Members may invite a substitute to attend in their place.
- Rotating members serve for two years.

PSMG Membership
The Group consists of the Associate Director for Public Services
(chair), public service unit heads, functional group representatives
(rotating members), a representative of the branch libraries (rotating
member), a collections manager (rotating member), a representative
from the Institute Archives, and the Head of Systems and Technology
Services.
