Charge

The group will plan the implementation of Ex Libris' MetaLib and SFX applications to provide enhanced navigation of information resources provided by the MIT Libraries. These applications will include cross-database searching of a number of databases (MetaLib) and context-sensitive linking of resources (SFX). While the group will establish and coordinate teams to assist with its work, it will be ultimately responsible for the selection of appropriate databases and services, interface design, configuration, and implementation of the applications. The group will also make recommendations as to whether these applications can and should replace Vera in part or in total.

Timeframe

Implementation of Metalib for cross database searching across an initial selection of databases and implementation of an initial selection of SFX links will be completed and operational by July 1, 2002. At that point, assessment will be made as to whether the use of the applications will be expanded.

Reporting

The group will report to the Associate Director for Collection Services and the Associate Director for Technology.
