ILB: Renewing ILB Loans with ILLiad

Note: ILB materials CANNOT BE RENEWED VIA YOUR ACCOUNT in BARTON!

  1. Direct the user to ILLiad to check request status. http://libraries.mit.edu/ilb
  2. Users are asked to register the first time that they make an ILLiad request.
  3. After user logs in to ILLiad, they will see the ILLiad Main Menu.
  • Select the “View/Renew Checked Out Items” link at the top of the menu or “View/Modify Outstanding Requests” button

  • The user will see all ILB materials checked out to them. (They will see the same info in Your Account in Barton, but can't renew from there.)

Clicking the transaction number button on the first column on the left, will show Detailed Request Information for each item.

  • Click the button "Request Renewal" to renew the item.
    • If an item can be renewed, the user will see a note that says "Rewewal Requested."
      • If the renewal request was successful, The ILB staff will then request a renewal from the lender, and update the users' Aleph account with the new due date.
    • If the due date for the item has already passed, or the item was marked as NO RENEWALS when it was circulated to the patron, the patron will see a note that says "No Renewals Are Possible."
      • If the renewal request was not successful and the patron needs the material for longer, ask them to return the item and initiate a new ILB request for the material. It's not possible to renew the material after the due date has passed.

-See the ILLiad Glossary for more details on the item status in ILLiad.

-If there are issues with a request, refer the user to the Status Request form http://libraries.mit.edu/ilb, enter patron information, and ILLiad transaction number.

-If you can’t find an item status, the user has lost her PIN, or if you need immediate help, contact ilb-lib@mit.edu, or call 3-2761
