ILB:
Circulating ILB Materials to Users
- Articles
are delivered in PDF format via ILLiad.
- All other
materials such as books, entire journal or conference volumes, videos,
DVD’s, are processed by the ILB staff and prepared for circulation.
Delivery Services will transport them to public service desks in Barker,
Dewey, Hayden or Rotch. The books will be held for patron pickup.
Prior
to delivery to pickup locations:
- A brief
record is created for each item in Barton by ILB staff
- A hold
is placed for the patron for each item by ILB staff
- A label
is attached to the front of the book with an MIT Libraries barcode and
relevant circulation information by ILB staff.
Preparation
for Circulation at Public Service Desks:
- Check
item in as a Return in Aleph by scanning the MIT Libraries barcode on
the ILB book label
- A pop
up message will appear in Aleph “Item not on loan” click
okay/ enter
- A hold
request window will come up, and hold notice email will be sent to user.
- A printer
window will pop up on the screen to print the hold notice, so close
or cancel this window if you don't print hold notices at your library.
- Place
item on the hold shelf, as you would an LSA or book page item.
To
Check ILB Items out to Patron at Public Service Desks:
- Change
due date on the item. Each item has a different due date, which will
be printed on the ILB book label.
To
Return an ILB Item at Public Service Desks:
- ILB
items may be returned to any MIT Libraries location.
- Return
the item in Aleph as you would any other item to remove the item from
the patron’s account.
- Write
the letter R on the ILB book label to indicate that
the item has been returned.
- Place
ILB item in designated area for ILB returns, Delivery Services will
pick up on their daily rounds.
Items
on the hold shelf that are not picked up before their due date:
- Write
NR on the ILB book label
- Place
item in the area designated for ILB returns for Delivery Services to
pick up.
