Bytes 12-15 are intended to contain standardized retention
data that MIT currently records in summary holdings statements - for instance,
"Latest issue only," "Latest 20 years in Barker, earlier in RSC," "Current paper
issues kept until microfilm ed. arrives," etc. We recommend that MIT's use of
non-standard summary holdings statements vis-à-vis these bytes be discussed
with other groups (including the Processing Committee, Public Services, and
Serials Acquisitions).
