Requesting Changes to Resources in Vera: vera-data

We use the vera-data list to communicate changes that must be made to the Vera database. As of March 2004, Walter is answering the requests that come to the list, though the rest of us do lurk on the list as well.

As of July 2003, all requests for changes to Vera records should be sent to vera-data@mit.edu.

What types of data changes might I request?

Anything you want! Here are some examples:

How can I get the "Coverage" statement in Vera revised?

For ejournals, coverage dates are exported monthly from Barton by Christine Moulen, Library Systems Manager, and imported into Vera by Nicole Hennig, Web Manager. As a temporary measure, we sometimes load publisher's coverage information, if available, while waiting for cataloging to be completed. Email vera-data@mit.edu and sercat@mit.edu about changes to ejournal coverage statements.

For databases, the person who created the Vera record initially enters the coverage dates. This is usually Ellen. Please vera-data@mit.edu about changes to database coverage statements.

How can I make a title appear on a certain "Subject" list?

Subject-related changes should be sent to vera-data@mit.edu.

How do I create a brand new Subject category?

Send requests for new subject categories to the Web Advisory Group: webgroup-lib@mit.edu.

What if I have a question about a Barton record for an electronic resource?

These questions should still be referred, for ejournals, eserials, and integrating resources, to Serials Cataloging at sercat@mit.edu, or, for ebooks, to Rebecca Lubas at rll@mit.edu. If you are unsure whether the resource is an integrating resource or monograph, send your question to Serials Cataloging, since they cover the majority of products, and they will refer your query on if it is to be handled by BAS.

The change I want isn't addressed here. Who should I contact?

Send your report to vera-data@mit.edu. We will make sure your request is forwarded to the appropriate person, and we will keep you informed about the status of your request.

Notes for DigAcq Staff:

Some requests sent to vera-data should be referred to other DigAcq staff as follows:

  • requests that involve adding title notes about access, changing the way we describe access, modifying license or access-related fields should all go to Ellen
  • requests to set up new ejournals or databases should all go to Kim (who will redistribute as appropriate)

If a vera-data requests seems to involve the need to set up a new record in Vera, it should be referred to Ellen or Kim, as seems appropriate.
