Adding Ejournal Records to Vera

Create a New Record in Vera if the title is not part of a package, nor is the publisher represented anywhere in Vera. To create a new record, choose New Record from the Records menu; the shortcut is Ctrl-N.

Duplicate an Existing Record in Vera if you are adding a title which is part of a pre-existing package or a publisher which is already represented in Vera. To duplicate a record, choose Duplicate Record from the Records menu; the shortcut is Ctrl-D.

The table below shows what data will be present in each field after you Create or Duplicate.

Note: If you are adding a new base URL to Vera and the resource should be made available from off campus, notify Rich Wenger that a new base URL must be added to the Proxy server. Add note to Licensed Notes indicating you've done so. See also Proxy Server: Getting a Resource Configured for the Proxy Server for Off Campus Use

Calculated results box (3 separate but related fields):

ProxyUp
SystemOK
c_Go

The Systems office controls the results of these three fields, as follows:

ProxyUp: This is a global field controlled by the systems office that indicates whether the proxy server is currently operational or not. If the proxy server goes down, ProxyUp is changed to "no" so that on-campus is not blocked while the problem with the proxy server (and off-campus access) is addressed. This field will either be all Yes or all No.

SystemOK: After staff in the Systems Office have configured the base URL of the resource for the Proxy Server (at the request of someone in DigAcq), he/she will change the SystemOK field in Vera to Yes to indicate that the work in the Proxy Server has been completed.

c_Go: The C_go field is a calculation field that adds "http://libraries.mit.edu" to the beginning of the Get URL. It's a global field that contains that string "http://libraries.mit.edu" . We never touch that field, it's just part of the behind the scenes functioning, so that the Get URL is fully constructed and doesn't have to be typed in completely each time you create a new one. [c_Go part per Nicole 060109]
