OVERRIDING PRIVILEGES

These procedures can be used in a variety of instances:

  • if a book has multiple holds on it (“Item has been requested by other borrowers”)
  • if you need to circulate reference materials for a short period of time (“No loan permission for this item.”)
  • when a patron’s expiry date is approaching (“Expiry date approaching – date month year”)

1) Scan patron’s id or look up patron’s name.

2) Click USER.

3) Click tab 2 “Local Information

4) Click first line “Global user” and then click “Update”.

5) Click tab 3 “Privileges

6) Change the category "Override Privileges" from NO to YES and click Update.

7) This will prompt a warning sign – “Borrower’s privileges do match system defaults. Accept borrowers privileges?” Click “YES”.

8) Return to loan screen and scan barcode (you may need to cancel this existing loan if the item barcode area is greyed in).

9) Depending on the category of override you will either get 1) “Item has been requested by other borrowers,” “No loan permission for this item” or “Expiry date approaching” will appear in the loan window. Click “Override”.

10) The computer should assign a due date which corresponds to the item status. (for reference books it will give to the next day, for those graduating it will give them UNTIL the day of graduation (June 4, 2004), or 2 weeks if the book has multiple holds on it.

11) After you have checked the item out please go back and change the override privileges back to “No”.
