Branch Managers Group
Due to the committee restructuring in the summer of 2006, BMG is no longer an official committee of the MIT Libraries. Its members, however, continue to support its mission through their participation in the new committee structure and project proposal process as well as by holding informal meetings and sharing best practices and service improvements.
The Branch Managers Group is a standing committee consisting of the manager of each of the MIT Libraries' four Branch Libraries. It exists as a forum for sharing best practices and to provide a unified branch voice regarding policies and procedures of the MIT Libraries that impact Branch operations. The group was originally formed in the 1980 as the Branch Librarians Group (BLG) and was renamed the Branch Managers Group in the mid-1990's to better reflect the scope of the members' responsibilities.
To promote the unique collections and services in MIT's Branch Libraries, the Branch Managers Group will:
- Meet regularly to share information and experiences specific to Branch management
- Provide a unified voice regarding Library policies and practices that impact management of the Branches
- Advocate and promote exemplary services for the Libraries and the MIT community
- Bring the Branch perspective to Library-wide discussions of service and management
