Third Barton Transition

Training

Training is a large part of the Transition Project. It can be broken down into the following components:

  • Ex Libris' 'train the trainer' training in systems, OPAC, web customization, and the functional modules (coordinated by Sarah Shreeves and Susan Marshall from Ex Libris)

  • The Libraries' training in the OPAC client for staff (coordinated by Nina Davis-Millis).

  • The Libraries' training in the functional modules for staff (coordinated by Sarah Shreeves and training coordinators for each functional module)

  • The Libraries' training in the web OPAC for staff (coordinated by Sarah Wenzel and Deborah Helman).

  • The Libraries' training in the web OPAC for users (coordinated by Pat Flanagan)

Resources for Training

  • Ex Libris Documentation (link may not be the most current, see below)

    Documentation for 14.2 (our version of Aleph) is also available. Using either Windows Explorer or Word, look in the following directory:

    Network Neighborhood --> Libaxis1 --> ExLibrisDocs --> Documentation CD --> Functional Training

  • Local Documentation
    (Please note: the following training materials may be viewed or downloaded only by MIT. Other Aleph sites are welcomed to request copies; please email ninadm@mit.edu)
  • Connecting to the Correct Server on the Training Room Machines

  • Copying Aleph Documentation at Copy Tech
    Copy Tech is able to make photocopies from a file, which should produce better quality reproductions than paper to paper (especially for those screen shots). Files must be in either PostScript or .pdf formats -- NOT Word. (Saving in PostScript format requires Adobe Distiller software, and making .pdf files requires Acrobat Writer software.) If you have questions, call Don at 8-7794 or call Scott at 3-2806. They can take files on regular floppy disks or Zip disks. They are also able accept files by email: send them as attachments to skydiver@mit.edu. Be sure to include all instructions (including number of copies, billing information, and when they will be picked up) and your name and phone number in case they have questions.
