Third Barton Transition

Project Scope

The Project Team is responsible for:

Communication

  • Regularly communicating with staff about transition issues
  • Responding to staff concerns and questions about the transition process
  • Developing a plan to communicate with users about the transition process

Building relationships with project partners

  • Establishing a strong working relationship with Ex Libris
  • Responding to the concerns of Ex Libris
  • Continuing working relationship with IS and other MIT staff

Planning

  • Developing an implementation plan with Ex Libris
  • Setting deadlines and insuring that we are in a position to meet deadlines already set

Conversion

  • Identifying what clean-up projects must be completed prior to migration
  • Designing the basic configuration of the installation with Ex Libris
  • Determining how data will migrate into ALEPH (conversion)
  • Identifying problem areas for data conversion with Ex Libris
  • Converting as close to 100% of the data as possible from the Geac ADVANCE system into the ALEPH 500 system

Testing data and workflows

  • Examining converted data in the test database
  • Testing feeds and internal workflows
  • Working closely with departments to modify workflows as needed

OPAC Design

  • Designing and testing the OPAC for usability

Training

  • Providing training in technical writing to appropriate staff
  • Providing the Ex Libris training to appropriate staff
  • Coordinating systemwide training in staff modules and the OPAC with the staff trained by Ex Libris
  • Providing Ex Libris documentation to all staff prior to the live date of 7-1-01

Follow-up

  • Following up on problems between the live date of 7-1-01 and the final acceptance date of 9-1-01

The Project Team is NOT responsible for:

  • Creating new features and/or services during the implementation process
  • Writing local documentation concerning ALEPH
