Barton Advisory Group meeting 4-26-2006

Present: Piontek-Ma, Moulen, Follett, Duke, O'Malley, Wenger (minutes)

1. We continued to review the current service pack.

- one fix of note is supposed to enable the client to print to an alternate printer

2. Version 18 and Oracle 10

- Aleph 18 is installed on the test server. USM libraries are now available, but our data has not yet been loaded. - url for OOTB OPAC is walter.mit.edu:8992 - the clients have not yet been customized. - we discussed the feature that can automatically remove 'MISSING' status when a lost item is found and checked in. We need to understand it better in order to know if it will be useful in our workflow. - after our data is imported, Christine has a couple weeks of work completing the upgrade steps. - Darcy will begin tracking OPAC changes in v16 to make sure they get put into v18

3. A faculty member spoke with Steve Gass, requesting the ability to place holds on items that are on order, via Your Account

- in v18 when an item is arrived that has a hold on it, a message will pop up with an alert about the hold. - There's no automated method to rush or indicate the existence of a request to acquisitions once the order has been placed.

4. v18 on walter

- we tried to examine some of the new features during the meeting, but with little success because of the chaotic state of the USM data. We will revisit this when our data is loaded.

Next meeting: May 10, 1:30pm, Cubespace E25-131
