Barton Advisory Group Meeting Minutes 1/25/2006
Present: Darcy Duke, Lisa Harrington (minutes), Christine Moulen (chair), Denise O'Malley, Elke Pointek-Ma, Beth Siers, Rich Wenger, Garry Zeigler
Server upgrade Update: This server upgrade already occurred on January 28-30 Beth still has some script testing to do. There was some trouble with the installation but that should be fixed today or tomorrow so the testing can resume. Darcy will be checking to make sure the 'your account' function still works. Christine is setting up shortcuts to repoint the Web OPAC to the test server during a slow time over the weekend. Barton will be down Saturday and Sunday to do the transfer from the old server to the new. The actual import onto the new server will happen Sunday going into Monday and if the data transfer goes well then we should be able to test on Monday around noon. Christine sent an email regarding what to test. The test server is 'walter' now (it was walter-1)
ALA Update Nina spoke with James from Ex Libris regarding the schedule of version 18. It is expected to be 'ready to ship' in March or April. Christine will follow up with James.
DLG/TSAC: they would like to review this upgrade in conjunction with other projects to be sure our schedule will work in conjunction. The NC State catalog was talked about quite a bit at ALA. They have a separate front-end that allows for more faceted browsing. This product was from Endeca and is used instead of their OPAC module.
Indexing: more discussion for necessary changes Beth has documentation for what we need to fix tables. The subfields are breaking and adding an extra space. This is causing title browse problems and other search problems. This is a priority and needs to be fixed. Also in word indexing, phrase searching needs to be turned on. Beth mentioned there were other minor items to adjust too.
Another problem Lisa mentioned is when running the claim report, when there is no ISSN it grabs the system number instead. This has caused some confusion for staff using the claim report. Christine suggested we fix it so that it remains blank if there is no ISSN. This will be done in the next few weeks along with the reindexing.
Beth also mentioned that $6 shows up (in the bib record) and would it be possible to customize the table to take this out. Christine and Beth will be looking into this together. If it's unable to be fixed then Beth suggested we report it as a bug to Ex Libris. The question was brought up if there were other problematic subfields and would they also be problematic? Christine is looking into the documentation and may do a work around. Both of these can be fixed separately from re-indexing the whole system (this was done the weekend of March 5th).
Barton as an SFX Source Implementing Barton as an SFX source requires modifications to many html pages and those changes will need to be migrated to v18 as part of the upgrade. Rich and Beth have been working with WAG to get Barton set up as an SFX source.
Aleph version 18 Christine quickly reviewed some of the major features expected to come with the new upgrade.
BAG webpages Christine and Lisa will take a look at the BAG webpages to update information and get rid of dead links. There may be some documentation review in the coming weeks.
Next meeting: February 22, 1:30pm, Cubespace E25-131
