Barton Advisory Group Minutes 8/24/05
Duke (Minutes), Follett, Maxwell, MacReynolds, Moulen, Piontek-Ma, Siers, Wenger
1. Latest service pack
Christine installed the latest service pack on Monday but the programs involved are not working the same as when we tested them, so Christine has uninstalled the service pack. ExLibris is looking into the problem, but in the meanwhile Christine will bring three programs related to loader fixes over directly (without the service pack) to see if this will work.
2. Aleph Upgrade Issues
- Kim is looking into recurring pub pattern problems. Will consult with Patty Hatch at Harvard to know if these are problems others are having, and then will report to ExLibris. These problems are causing a lot of extra work for check-in folks. Every upgrade has required fixing many patterns each time.
- Rich has been working on formatting the brief cash report and is looking for who to work with to decide on the formatting. Georgiana suggested contacting the circ supervisors.
- Nina, Darcy, Tracy, Christine and Austin met to discuss ongoing support of the web OPAC. More discussions are needed to discuss long-term support, but for now Darcy will maintain the list of outstanding issues/problems; Austin and Christine will work through the high priority fixes and when those are done we will reconvene to discuss how to tackle the rest.
2. Getting the Ipod loans set up for Music
Music Libraries will circulate Ipods similarly to how the laptops are circulated at Hayden and Barker. The main difference is the replacement fee is different, so a new item status needs to be made. This should be ready to go shortly and Christine will make it live soon [now done]. Kim will update the item status page. Beth will will set up the bib and item records next week so that these can circulate by the start of the fall term.
3. Some patron loading and Your Account updates
Howard Silver initiated getting patron barcodes loaded automatically into our records and sending out email to new students giving them their Your Account passwords. Christine will make these both happen next Monday. Discussion ensued about the history of why we can't use kerberos or certificates for Your Account.
4. Committee Review
PSMG has asked the PS committees to do a self review. Nina has asked us to do this as well since we are partially composed of public service staff. She would like to have this done by the end of the September.
5. Priority List
The Barton priority list [http://libstaff.mit.edu/barton/priorities.html] has not been updated since September 2004. BAG reviewed this list and made suggestions for updating and re-prioritizing. Kim will convert this to a web page and Lisa will take over maintaining this list. Kim suggested we could come up with a new numbering system that would reflect items that are pending, but not to be looked at until certain upgrades (ex: things for version 18 would start with 18, etc.). We will add new projects for version 16 via email.
Next meeting: September 14, 1:30, Cubespace E25-131
Minutes: Harrington
