Barton Advisory Group
Barton Advisory Group met on Wednesday 4/27/2005 at 1:30 in the Hayden Conference Room.
Present: Charlene Follett, Tracy Gabridge, Kim Maxwell (minutes), Georgiana McReynolds, Christine Moulen (Chair), Elke Piontek-Ma, Ray Schmidt (subbing for Beth Siers), Rich Wenger
1. Testing Updates
Circ: Georgiana is reviewing the findings of the circ testing group.
Proc is talking about how to do item training.
SerAcq will be training the Processing staff not involved in the serials testing group (12 people).
Acq staff is testing invoices with Macrina and will be looking at Aleph reports with Joan.
Cataloging is doing fine, trying to work on some of the more exotic things such as analytics and bound withs. They are inventorying local templates and may put more of them on the server to share.
OPAC: Group is feeling a little behind, but hoping to get the Web OPAC up to a "version 14 look and feel" by May 11 in order to test. A few things:
- the Forgot Your Password? functionality will not be day 1 -- it is currently
broken so group can't adequately test it (Note: functionality fixed as of 5/15/05,
but still won't be a day 1 thing)
- switch between table and list view in brief results gives new functionality
2. Saturday's Downtime
We are adding some new hardware that will allow us to connect to the SAN. Should
only take a few hours; Christine will let all-lib know when it's done. At some
other time we'll need to be down about 8-10 hours in order to move all our data
over to the SAN. We may be able to do this as part of the upgrade to 16.
3. Indexing for Version 16
We need to re-index. Browse indexes will be non-functional for about 2 weeks,
but we can look at records. We should NOT edit bib records, even though technically
we'll be able to do so.
4. Meeting Schedule
Christine will discuss the WAG schedule with Nicole and we'll try to find a
time for BAG that meets everyone's needs.
5. Updates from Olybris Seminar
Christine attended the Systems Seminar offered by Ex Libris in Greece. She learned
some stuff about printing and saw an overview of the new GUI design. She attended
some maintenance and monitoring sessions, saw some cool SIP2 protocol stuff
(to be used with the self-check machine), and went to an interesting session
on authentication. She learned about X server capabilities, the new SDI mechanism,
got some good ideas on Aleph client management and how to use version check
and customize the installer.
Next meeting: Wed 5/11/05 in Hayden Conference Room
