Version 16 upgrade updates:
Ex Libris was about to begin indexing our upgraded test database. It will take a week or two to go through the entire indexing process.
Jonah & Maria joined us to discuss training, especially for those who will
be testing the upgrade.
We have about 35 identified testers. Maria will schedule 4 general training
sessions, about an hour each, once we know the system is ready for testing,
currently expected the week of February 7. At least one session will be during
a different week, in case of vacations. Christine will be a trainer for these
sessions.
The general training will be followed by specific training for each functional
area. BAG members will do this training for the testers in their area. Maria
offered to help with scheduling if desired. Start to learn the new clients by
using the pre-recorded training sessions from Ex Libris.
Christine will be visiting the LTE meeting the week of Feb. 7 so that they are
ready to install the new client for testing staff.
Scheduling downtime for live server Solaris upgrade:
IS&T needs 2 days to upgrade the operating system on our live Barton server.
This is both required in preparation for version 16, and necessary to keep in
sync with the test server which was upgraded in December.
We discussed preferred weekend dates, given the beginning of Spring term. [This
work has since been scheduled for Feb 12-13.]
Checklist for version 16 upgrade tasks:
Christine has started work on a spreadsheet and will send it around to the group
for additions soon.
ALA briefs:
We discussed ALA sessions members has recently attended at the Midwinter meeting
in Boston.
-ISBN13 - Beth & Charlene gained a greater understanding of the new 13-digit
ISBN. It may have a larger impact than originally thought, and require programming
by Ex Libris.
-EDI - Christine me with the NAAUG EDI taskgroup. It was mainly a planning meeting.
-IEEE - Tracy participated in discussions about the end of receiving IEEE proceedings
publications in print next year. She discussed ways that IEEE can help libraries
make the proceedings accessible through SFX and library catalogs as well as
MIT's concerns about long term archival.
Next meeting:
Wed. Feb. 2. 1:30-3:00 (NEW SCHEDULE) at Hayden Conference Room.
