Barton Advisory Group
Barton Advisory Group Minutes - March 17, 2004
Present: Charlene Follett, Tracy Gabridge, Kim Maxwell, Georgiana McReynolds (minutes), Christine Moulen (chair), Elke Piontek-Ma, Beth Siers, Rich Wenger
1. Announcements
2. In response to a query from Theresa Tobin, BAG members discussed giving users the ability to place a hold from Barton on rec'd/not available and on order items. Currently users must ask reference staff for assistance. There is no way in Aleph to automatically change the status to rush or bring the hold to the attention of acquisition, cataloging, or processing staff. Georgiana will have a follow up discussion with Theresa.
3. Tracy indicated that browse searching in the smaller logical bases did not seem to be working properly. Christine agreed to correct the problem by re-building all the counters except the 12 largest logical bases. This procedure was missed when indexing was done in September. Christine will run the procedure during Spring Break or around Patriots' Day. Tracy will put a message on Barton and Christine will send a message to All-Lib. Staff will be told NOT to create or edit bib records during the re-building. The procedure may take 36 to 48 hours to run; Christine will get a better time estimate by first running the process on the test server.
4. Some audio books have been received at HUM but they don't have a special format code or a special call number prefix. Beth will ask Rebecca how the audio books are being cataloged so that we can set up a logical base for them.
5. Beth asked for volunteers to moderate various sessions at the NAAUG meeting this June. Christine, Charlene, Tracy, Kim, Beth, and Rich agreed to assist. Christine will also present "Communicating with other campus systems" at the poster session.
Next meeting - April 14, 2004; 3 PM - Barker Conference Room (note change
in location!)
