Barton Advisory Group

Barton Advisory Group Minutes
January 21, 2004

Present: Follett (minutes,) Gabridge, McReynolds, Moulen (chair,) Siers, Piontek-Ma, Wenger

1. Problem with ISSN Index
Moulen reported that a problem with the ISSN index has been reported, primarily via the SFX links -- if you search and ISSN we don't own, the result is a blank page. She has investigated with ExLibris and was told that's the way the system works; we need to add an ISSN index that uses a code set up by ExLibris which will give the user a message that the ISSN was not found, instead of the blank page response.

Gabridge will talk to the SFX staff about this, since SFX target links may need to be re-configured by our staff and vendors may need to be notified to adjust their URLs to our new index for better results. Once SFX staff has been alerted, Moulen will correct the indexes during off-hours, hopefully the weekend of January 24. The other switches can then be done by whoever needs to do so, including the switch for the OPAC Advanced Search page.

2. NAAUG Enhancement Requests
The 2004 Enhancement Request list was discussed and prioritized within each module. Moulen will get input from Maxwell on proposed Serials enhancements and then send a draft of our vote to BAG for comment before submitting to NAAUG. The deadline for voting is 30th.

3. Announcements
McReynolds announced that "Your Account" was discussed at a recent Circulation Committee meeting and they agreed to take turns monitoring this, since the volume of problems that come in are too much for just one staff member to handle. The biggest problem seems to be patrons who forget their password. Members of the email list that receives the password requests will rotate, similarly to bounced circulation notices.

Wenger reported progress setting up the "Brief Cash Report" for Humanities and Science. The report is already in production at Dewey, Barker and Lindgren.

Follett reported that EDI monograph ordering with Harrassowitz, our German vendor, is now live. Many thanks to Moulen for her help with this project.

Gabridge reported that this year's MIT Mystery Hunt included library questions and required use of Barton and a book in our collection.

Next Meeting: February 4, 2004, 3:00 PM
