The Barton Advisory Group met on 8/1/02 and 8/8/02. These two meetings each felt like a part of the same meeting, so we decided to combine the minutes.

Present 8/1: Michael Finigan, Charlene Follett, Stephanie Hartman, Erja Kajosalo, Kim Maxwell (minutes), Christine Moulen (chair), Beth Siers. Guest: Nina Davis-Millis

Present 8/8: Michael Finigan, Charlene Follett, Stephanie Hartman, Kim Maxwell (minutes), Christine Moulen (chair), Beth Siers. Guest: Stephen Skuce

Reporting on the NAAUG Meeting
The North American Aleph User Group (NAAUG) meeting was held at Boston College July 28-30. All members of the Barton Advisory Group attended, as well as Tracy Gabridge, Carl Jones, and Stephen Skuce. Nina Davis-Millis also attended one session at NAAUG. All of the 8/1 meeting and the first half of the 8/8 meeting was spent reporting on the various sessions each of us attended. We plan to update the rest of the staff at an upcoming Tech Forum, which should occur in early October.

Other items from the 8/8 meeting include:

Nina and Barton Advisory Group
As the head of the newly reorganized Office of Systems and Technology Services, Nina Davis-Millis will now be joining our meetings as often as possible in order to learn more about the group and our work with Barton

Patch 5 Testing (including Patches 3 & 4)
Patches 3, 4, and 5 are installed on our test server, and all testers should have the client. If anyone else needs a test client, let one of us in Barton Advisory Group know. We will be testing all patches simultaneously. Remember to check the list of outstanding problems (from way back, remember that?) and see if they are now fixed; many of them were supposed to be fixed with patch 5. Our goal is to put these patches into production near the start of the Fall term.

Pilot Project: Circulating Laptops
The Libraries are entering into a pilot project with IS to circulate laptops at the Libraries. A task force made up of library staff has explored the issue, and Barton Advisory Group was consulted about the logistics of using Aleph to track the laptops. The pilot will begin with 3 laptops each at Barker and Hayden Circ, hopefully beginning in September. We decided to create one bib record, two holdings records, and six item records, which will all be suppressed from the public for now. Christine, Michael, and Beth will follow up on this.

Next meeting: Thursday 9/5/02 in Hayden Conference Room
