Account Request Form User's Guide

Your username

Your email address is needed to let us know who this request is coming from. Requests for permissions on Barton need to come from authorized staff members.[Return to form]

Account owner's username

The username will be the name used by this person to login to Barton. This username should match the name used for Athena and email access. New staff members will need to have their Athena account set up before requesting a Barton account. Because Barton uses MIT's kerberos security system, the username must be unique, and registering for the Athena account first ensures this. For temporary staff we still recommend (require?) getting an Athena account. [Return to form]

Location

Location will primarily be used to set you to the correct proxy for your permissions. E.g. at some locations the librarians also work at circulation, or circulation staff do processing. Branches are probably also special cases. [Return to form]

Staff or student?

We ask whether the account is for a student or staff member so that certain permissions are set up properly. Temporary staff who need a Barton account may also have special circumstances, such as no Athena account, so this group is also included. [Return to form]

Account changes

New account: To your knowledge, this person does not already have a Barton account.

New password: This person has forgotten their password and needs a new temporary password to be assigned.

Modify permissions: This person already has an account, but needs additional, or reduced, access.

Reactivate: This person had an account in the past, left the Libraries staff (e.g. a student gone for the summer) and has returned to work. A new temporary password will be assigned.

Deactivate: This person will no longer be working for the Libraries, or will be leaving for a period of time (e.g. a student leaving for the summer). The account should be removed. [Return to form]

Similar user

Another person with similar permissions: This is used to verify that the person is getting the correct permissions. The person with similar permissions should preferably work in the same unit. [Return to form]
