History of The Barcodes
according to Jeremiah Graves, Barcodes power forward and historian of lore & tall tales
"The Barcodes are a noble breed with a lineage that dates back thousands of years to a time when dinosaurs ruled the earth and mankind was in its infancy. While some claim that the Tyrannosaurus Rex stood tall and proud, any historian worth his/her salt will tell you that it was the Barcodes who were really in control, however, the unyielding kindness and compassion exhibited by the Barcodes is what has allowed this historical inaccuracy to pass by, unquestioned, for so many eons.
"Unfortunately, all of the original works that recorded the Barcodes rich and robust history have been destroyed throughout the years. As such, the only remaining records date back to the fall of 2006 and the MIT Libraries. According to scrolls—recently discovered behind a rather sketchy pizza place in South Boston—the modern day incarnation of the Barcodes is an intramural basketball team comprised of library employees and their friends and family.
"This new wave of Barcodes has been dominant on the basketball court. Heading into the 2007-2008 season the Barcodes are undefeated and—let’s be honest—unmatched. They already have one championship to their name and hopefully this season will produce a repeat.
"PS: Barcodes live forever. They cannot be killed by conventional methods; the only way to kill a Barcode is to cut off their head. This will result in a transference of power known as the Quickening."
