Occasionally
the Libraries seek candidates for temporary positions which may provide
developmental opportunities for existing staff members. Internal applicants
will be given full consideration for such positions. The Libraries may
or may not be able to make arrangements for a staff member to return
to her/his permanent position at the end of the temporary appointment.
This will depend upon whether a reasonable contingency plan for covering
the responsibilities of the permanent position can be implemented for
the temporary period. Informal inquiries to one's department head might
be useful before deciding to apply for such a position. However, the
final decision will be made when the staff member is offered the temporary
appointment. If a support staff member is offered a temporary administrative
staff position, the changes in benefits for the temporary period will
be described to the staff member. In any case, the appointment letter
for the temporary position will include a clear statement as to whether
the staff member will or will not be able to return to her/his permanent
position.
