Professional Staff Recruitment:

Selection of Candidates To Be Interviewed

In an effort to reduce staff time spent on the professional search process, and to shorten the duration between the posting and filling of an administrative staff position, the role of the Search Committee will now commence after candidates have been selected for interview. Candidates for whom references will be requested and interviews scheduled will be selected from the pool of applicants by the Chair of the Search Committee and the Director's Office Staff Administrator, in consultation with the appropriate Associate Director; search committee members will no longer be involved in this process. The Associate Director will have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the selection of candidates is in keeping with the Libraries' affirmative action goals, paying special attention to minority applicants and gender balance in the pools. Continuing with current practice, the Search Committee will plan the interview, participate in interview sessions, prepare other staff for interview sessions, review references, gather input from interview participants, and prepare an assessment and/or recommendation for Steering Committee.

There is one exception to the aforementioned policy. In cases where the pool of applicants is six or fewer, the Search Committee will review the entire pool and select candidates for whom references will be requested and interviews scheduled. The Chair of the Search Committee will then present the committee's recommendation to the appropriate Associate Director for approval.
